Stuart’s Bio
Stuart began in a costs drafting firm in 1990 before moving to an in-house role at a solicitor’s costs department in 1998. He then joined a small costs firm in 2000, playing a pivotal role in it’s rapid expansion from just 3 personnel to over 40 staff in 2 locations by 2010 and it’s merger with a firm of solicitors during that time in 2004. The company made a final merger with a very large solicitor’s practice in 2017 while Stuart was the Deputy Head of Costs Litigation.
During Stuart’s 30 years in costs litigation he has dealt with the drafting, opposing, advising and advocacy in a great many matters and been a qualified mediator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for 10 of those, since 2011.
He has been instructed on numerous large costs cases in a very broad range of disciplines from Personal Injury to Commercial matters for both paying and receiving parties. Whilst Deputy Head of Costs Litigation he was entrusted with advising on and drafting the dispute documentation and/or bills of costs for multi-million pound litigations and Group Litigations reporting in to global insurance organisations and senior partners of large law firms. He has always been central to the budgeting process for clients and fully recognises the crucial importance that getting that correct now plays in modern litigations.
In April 2019 he set up SJC resolve to independently continue this work, enjoying that flexibility and being rewarded with numerous and varied instructions from existing and new clients
Stuart takes pride in, above all else, providing sensible and realistic advice to clients to assist them in resolving their issue(s) as costs and time efficiently as possible.
